The Town Hall in Hilversum (1931) is the culmination of the work of Willem Marinus Dudok. In its striking composition of horizontal and vertical solid shapes, it is not just a building but a monumental sculpture. It was built between 1928-1931 at the edge of Hilversum city centre. The interior is as impressive as the exterior: an inspiring interplay of space, design, decor, light, colour and materials. The Dudok Architecture Centre (DAC) is located in the basement of this, now world-famous, Town Hall. The DAC exhibition space provides an overview of the work of Dudok, who joined the municipality of Hilversum on 1 July 1915. Visitors can take a tour of the entire building under the guidance of our well-informed and enthusiastic guides, and also to see Dudok’s other architectural works around Hilversum.
Accompanied by a guide, you can visit the Town Hall. The tour is in Dutch, but an English brochure is available. During the tour you will be able to enter the most extraordinary and still largely completely original areas of this national monument. At the end of the tour, weather permitting, you can also climb the tower. If the weather is clear, the 47-metre-high tower offers a magnificent view of up to 30 km away.
Start of the tour: Thursday – Sunday at 1.30 pm. Booking in advance is necessary. However, for groups of 6 or more people, please let us know at least 24 hours before your visit (firstname.lastname@example.org).
In addition to the regular guided tours of the Town Hall, we provide customised tours for groups. Depending on the availability of our guides, you can pick your own date and time. You can also book a guided excursion through Hilversum (walking, cycling, bus) where you can see the rest of Dudok’s work in the city. If you are interested, please send us a message at: email@example.com. We can then contact you to discuss your requirements further.
