For the construction of the Hilversumse Meent, land to the west of Bussum was purchased from the Erfgooiervereniging Stad en Lande van Gooiland. The Hilversumse Meent is located at some distance from the residential area Het Spiegel in the built-up area of Bussum.
The district is separated from the surrounding farmland area and the Naardermeer by a green buffer. Greenery plays an important role in the district. The facilities center is centrally located in the Meent. The houses are located on roads with a residential area at the front and on public greenery at the back.
The De Wandelmeent project is a plan for Central Living from 1976 by the architectural firm Leo de Jonge, Dorst, Lubeek de Bruijn, De Groot and partners.
