In 1968 the architectural firm Hartman & Eylers was commissioned to build 228 homes and 101 car boxes on Erasmuslaan and Geert Grootelaan in the new Kerkelanden district.
Three six-storey gallery flats were built on Erasmuslaan. Three lower porch flats were built on Geert Grootelaan, which were placed transversely to the main ring road and formed a transition to the courtyards with single-family homes.
The three residential buildings on Geert Grootelaan all have three floors above a plinth with storage rooms and garages. Between the buildings there is space for parking spaces and a wide green strip with a closed square. Each building has three stairwells with a house on either side. The balconies with rough concrete parapets and vertical metal connecting rods are particularly beautifully designed.
The Hartman & Eylers architectural firm was very productive in Hilversum in the 1960s. They built residential complexes, villas, commercial buildings, but also churches and a (now demolished) synagogue.
