The office building at Bonairelaan 4-6 was designed in 1990 by the world-famous American architect Richard Meier (1934) for the Royal Dutch Paper Factory (KNP), which established its head office in 1992.
The columns on which the office wing stands (“pilotis”), the shell roof and the roof terrace reveal the influence of Le Corbusier (1887-1965), the architect of modernism of the twentieth century. Very characteristic of Meier’s style is the facade cladding of white enamelled aluminum sheets, which can also be found in the city hall annex library of The Hague, the only other building by Meier in the Netherlands (1995). KNP sold the property back in 1996 and after having had several other residents, the building now serves as (temporary) accommodation for the Hilversum police.
