In 1913, the New York cinema theater was built on the Groest to a design by B.H. Bakker. The building, executed in a robust brick classicism, was converted into a Rex bioscoop in 1935 by B.H. and C.M. Bakker. The building was given a completely different appearance, in a business-like construction style. Long steel windows have been placed on the left and right of the plastered facades, of which two glass columns protrude per window. Decorative masts were installed above these windows. Over the years, the entrance door has been increasingly stripped of its business architecture.
