Coming from ‘s-Graveland, the access to the center of Hilversum is marked by iconic retail residential complexes on the corners of Albertus Perkstraat and Minister Hartsenlaan.
A rare neo-baroque complex of five retail houses was built on the corner with Minister Hartsenlaan in the period 1912-1914. The complex shows a somewhat meandering course of the facade and the high-rise roof. In addition, use has been made of the difference in height that is present at the transition from the villa area to the center.
The complex has been preserved in its original state. This is no longer the case with retail houses, especially when it comes to the fronts on the ground floor. Decorative elements and natural materials have been abundantly used, such as pilasters, an entablature with volutes and a toothed frame, and a high natural stone plinth. Bay windows, balconies and dormers with curved cornice add to the varied picture.
