The former Slachthuisplein with slaughterhouse and market square formed the core in the southern part of the old district across’ t track, around which a ‘shell’ housing was realized.
The southern part of the shell was designed by Dudok, the northern part was designed by the architects of the housing associations Erfgooiers and Patrimomium.
After the slaughterhouse closed, the area was reconstructed. Patio houses and stacked houses were built at the site of the slaughterhouse and the square. The housing envelope around it was largely replaced by new construction. The new complexes differ in typology and architecture, among themselves, but certainly also with respect to the remaining original buildings.
