In the late 1930’s, the fixed bridges over the Vecht were replaced by drawbridges. Dudok designed the bridge at Vreeland, together with an accompanying bridge keeper’s house, in a functionalist style. The house consists of two floors and has a gable roof with overhang. The ridge of the roof is perpendicular to the Vecht. The upper floor partly hangs over the water, here was the service room of the bridge keeper. The bridge and the house form an architectural and stylistic unit and have been designated as a national monument.
