The former Slachthuisplein with slaughterhouse and market square formed the core in the southern part of the old Over ‘t Spoor district, around which a ‘shell’ of housing was built.
The southern part of the shell was designed by Dudok, the northern part was designed by the architects of the Erfgooiers and Patrimomium housing associations.
After the slaughterhouse closed, the area was reconstructed. Patio houses and stacked houses were built at the site of the slaughterhouse and the square. The surrounding housing envelope was largely replaced by new construction. The new complexes differ in typology and architecture, among themselves, but certainly also with respect to the remaining original buildings.
