The train guard houses for railway staff, built close to the railway line and at railway crossings, make the course of the railway lines very recognizable. The architecture is simple and practical. Where the railway has disappeared elsewhere, its course can sometimes still be traced on the basis of remaining houses. On the other hand, many houses have also disappeared. In Hilversum, one of those characteristic houses is located at the fork of the railway in the direction of Amersfoort and Utrecht.
