As one of the first offices in the Laapersveld area, the new building of the Ether Reclame (STER) Foundation was taken into use in 1978. The official opening took place on January 18, 1979 by then CRM minister Til Gardeniers. The building was designed by the Hilversum architectural firm Falkenburg and Mulders and is a typical example of structuralist architecture from the Post ’65 period.
The floor plan of the building consists of a large number of connected hexagons. The honeycomb shape was implemented on all floors, even in the parking garage in the basement. On the ground floor, the hexagonal administrative departments, staff rooms, meeting rooms and canteen were arranged around two inner gardens with a pond. The cafeteria terrace was also hexagonal. The plants were laid out by landscape architect Mien Ruys. The building, constructed from concrete and steel, was clad on the outside with grey-brown aluminum sheets.
The architectural firm of Elzard Cornelis Falkenburg (1915-1986) and J.H. Mulders was active in Hilversum in the sixties and seventies. The office designed, among other things, the Comeniuscollege (1967), the ABNAMRO bank building on ‘s-Gravelandseweg (1972) and several private homes.
In 2022, the STER will move to the Media Park and the property will be sold.
